Case Study: Normativo — Building an HR Platform for Modern Teams
[Normativo](https://normativo.io) is the second product NormaTech built and operates in-house: an HR platform that brings a company''s people-related files, tools, and processes into one organized place. Together with [Stolio](https://stolio.cz), it demonstrates that we do not just deliver projects — we build and run software businesses, in a market where the competition includes Personio, BambooHR, HiBob, and PeopleForce.
The problem
In most small and mid-sized companies, HR lives everywhere and nowhere: contracts in a shared drive, vacation requests in email, onboarding checklists in someone''s head. Nothing is findable when needed — an audit, a dispute, a new hire''s first day. Enterprise HR suites solve this, but their pricing and complexity are built for enterprises, not for a 15-person company in Prague.
What we built
Normativo consolidates the HR essentials into a single platform designed for modern teams:
- One organized place for HR files and documents — contracts, policies, and employee records structured and accessible, instead of scattered across drives and inboxes.
- Self-service access — employees and managers find what they need without emailing HR for every document.
- Built for the Czech market first — localized in Czech, with the workflows Czech companies actually have, while remaining fully usable in English.
- SaaS delivery — a free 7-day trial, demo onboarding, and subscription pricing, so companies can evaluate it without procurement theater.
Competing with the big names
Normativo publishes open comparisons against Personio, BambooHR, HiBob, and PeopleForce. Positioning a bootstrapped Czech product against funded international suites forces discipline we bring to every client project:
- Focus — win on the features a 10–50 person company uses daily; skip enterprise checkboxes they pay for and never open.
- Speed — a small product team that designs, builds, and ships without committee rounds.
- Cost structure — cloud-native architecture that keeps running costs low enough to offer honest pricing.
The technical foundation
Like Stolio, Normativo runs on the stack we recommend to clients: a modern TypeScript web application, PostgreSQL with strict access controls for sensitive HR data, and cloud infrastructure sized to actual usage. HR data is among the most sensitive a company holds, so permissions and data protection were designed in from the first schema — not added before launch.
What this proves for your project
If your company needs an internal system — HR, operations, client portal — the build-vs-buy question comes first. Having built a product in this exact category, we can answer it honestly: sometimes the right answer is buying Normativo or a competitor; sometimes it is a custom system around your specific workflows. We have done both, and we will tell you which fits before any money changes hands.
